ASUS Unveils ROG RTX 5090 Featuring an Impressive Five Kilograms of Gold

Imagine owning a piece of hardware so opulent it rivals the finest jewels, yet it’s engineered to run the latest games. ASUS has done the unthinkable by showcasing a truly one-of-a-kind gold RTX 5090 Edition in China, potentially priced at the staggering sum of over $500,000.

While ASUS had already wowed audiences with the ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab edition, their newest creation takes luxury to another level. This GPU, unlike anything seen before, is largely constructed from actual gold, making it possibly the priciest GPU ever developed.

Reports indicate this lavish ROG RTX 5090 incorporates around 5 kg of gold, contributing to an overall weight of 7.2 kg. This far exceeds the typical 2.5 to 3.0 kg weight of standard RTX 5090 models. The use of gold for the GPU’s shroud significantly adds to this heft, supporting the PCB and heatsink beneath.

Photographs reveal a design featuring a copper heatsink, an already premium choice compared to standard aluminum. However, the golden shroud, despite its thickness, appears somewhat unpolished. While ASUS attempts to mimic the design from their ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab edition, this new iteration lacks the same shine. Yet, its full gold construction offers a unique allure far surpassing mere gold plating.

There are murmurs of it being labeled as the RTX 5090D, though this remains unconfirmed. Regardless, the exorbitant price, estimated at $500,000, dwarfs even NVIDIA’s most advanced data center GPUs like the Blackwell B200. In stark contrast, the ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab launched at about $8,000 in the Middle East, making this new gold marvel 80 times more expensive.

Even when compared to the regular $2000 RTX 5090, this gilded masterpiece is an eye-watering 250 times pricier. The audacity of such a product raises eyebrows, as it competes with the cost of luxury vehicles. While the Dhahab edition already sat on the upper echelons of expense, ASUS has pushed boundaries further with this extravagant piece. The question remains: will anyone embrace this mix of gaming prowess and sheer luxury?
