Asus has stepped up the game for its ROG Ally handhelds by officially supporting AMD’s AFMF 2 technology, promising a significant boost in gaming performance. Originally unveiled by AMD in October, this frame generation technology has already shown potential benefits in enhancing frames per second (FPS) in various titles.
With AFMF 2 active, Asus claims that users can experience up to twice the FPS, significantly enhancing gameplay smoothness and responsiveness. During a recent live stream, the company demonstrated how the technology can be leveraged across numerous games, even those lacking inherent support for the feature. Although the live demonstration didn’t dive deeply into specific performance metrics, YouTuber Quick Expert Reviews provided some insightful observations.
In their analysis, Quick Expert Reviews showcased the impact of AFMF 2 on the Asus ROG Ally X. For instance, the game Helldivers 2, which ran at approximately 40 FPS without the technology, saw an increase to around 70 FPS when AFMF 2 was integrated. The frame time was a comfortable 15 milliseconds, ensuring smooth gameplay. Similarly, Fallout 76 experienced a dramatic increase from 40 FPS to an impressive 100 FPS with AFMF 2, reflecting more than a twofold improvement in performance.
Cyberpunk 2077 also benefited significantly, with FPS climbing from about 30 to over 50. While the frame time was noted at 25 milliseconds, leading to slight input lag in some games, the overall enhancement is apparent.
