Asus is starting to tease its next big flagship gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 18 (2026). While the current Scar 18 (2025) was unveiled early last year and didn’t become widely orderable until later in the spring, the 2026 model is now entering the spotlight alongside the debut of Intel’s new Arrow Lake-HX Plus processors.
The timing isn’t accidental. Asus has confirmed the upcoming ROG Strix Scar 18 will be configurable with up to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, positioning it as a top-tier option for gamers and creators who want desktop-style horsepower in a portable 18-inch form factor. It also helps explain why a refreshed Scar 18 didn’t appear at this year’s CES—Intel’s latest high-end mobile chips are only being announced now.
Performance is where Asus is trying to raise expectations the most. The company says the 2026 ROG Strix Scar 18 will be able to push Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU harder than the 2025 version could. For comparison, the 2025 Scar 18 is known for running its GPU at up to 175W Total Graphics Power, including Dynamic Boost—already considered a peak level for many high-performance gaming laptops. Asus is now hinting that the 2026 edition will go beyond that with a “much higher” total system power budget, suggesting more headroom not only for the GPU, but for sustained CPU performance as well.
That extra power could translate into higher frame rates, better performance in demanding AAA games, and stronger results in heavy workloads like video editing, 3D rendering, streaming, and multitasking. In a category where cooling and power limits often decide real-world performance, a higher total system TDP is a strong signal that Asus is aiming for a meaningful leap rather than a minor refresh.
For now, Asus isn’t sharing the full spec sheet, and there’s no official pricing yet. The company says more details will be revealed in the coming months, with a targeted Q2 2026 release window. Until then, Asus is also rolling out new ROG Strix 16 and ROG Strix 18 gaming laptops, offering fresh options for buyers who don’t want to wait for the next Scar 18 to land.
If you’re shopping for a premium 18-inch gaming laptop in 2026, the early message from Asus is clear: the next ROG Strix Scar 18 is being built to outperform the previous generation, powered by Intel’s newest Arrow Lake-HX Plus platform and tuned to unleash more from Nvidia’s RTX 5090 Laptop GPU.
