AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency Support Arrives for 600-Series AM5 Motherboards

AMD’s 600-series motherboards are finally starting to receive BIOS updates that enable support for EXPO Ultra Low Latency, giving AM5 users access to improved DDR5 memory tuning without needing to move to a newer 800-series board.

AMD introduced EXPO Ultra Low Latency, also known as EXPO ULL, during Computex as an extension of its existing EXPO memory overclocking technology. The goal is simple: make DDR5 memory optimization easier, faster, and more accessible for users who want better performance without manually adjusting complicated BIOS settings.

EXPO ULL is designed to automatically apply tighter memory latency optimizations on compatible DDR5 kits and motherboards. For PC gamers and performance-focused users, that matters because memory latency can directly affect system responsiveness and gaming frame rates, especially on AMD’s AM5 platform.

According to AMD, EXPO Ultra Low Latency can improve gaming performance by up to 4% compared to standard EXPO memory profiles without ULL. While that may not sound huge, it is a welcome gain for users who want extra performance from their existing hardware through a BIOS update rather than a full platform upgrade.

When AMD first rolled out EXPO ULL, support appeared mainly on newer 800-series motherboards. That caused some confusion, as the feature was expected to support both 600-series and 800-series AM5 boards. Now, that gap is beginning to close as motherboard makers start releasing updated BIOS versions for existing 600-series models.

MSI appears to be among the first brands bringing broader EXPO ULL support to its 600-series lineup. Several MSI motherboards have received BIOS updates based on AGESA PI-1.3.0.1b, adding or improving support for AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency.

In some cases, initial EXPO ULL support appeared in earlier BIOS versions released near the end of May. However, later BIOS releases in early and mid-June appear to bring more optimized implementation of the feature. For example, high-end MSI boards such as the MEG X670E GODLIKE have received updates that include support for the new memory optimization mode.

Other MSI 600-series motherboards also began receiving EXPO ULL support in early June, allowing more AM5 users to take advantage of the feature. Owners can check their motherboard’s official support page to see whether a compatible BIOS update is available for their specific model.

ASUS has also started rolling out new BIOS updates for select 600-series AM5 motherboards. The first wave mainly focuses on premium X670E models, including boards from the ROG Crosshair and ROG Strix families. These updates include beta BIOS releases that enable EXPO Ultra Low Latency support, giving enthusiasts early access to the latest memory tuning improvements.

At the moment, the rollout is still limited. Flagship and high-end X670E motherboards are receiving attention first, while many other 600-series boards are still waiting for their respective BIOS updates. More models are expected to gain support as motherboard vendors continue validating new firmware.

For users with an AMD Ryzen system on the AM5 platform, this update could be worth watching closely. If your motherboard supports EXPO ULL and you use compatible DDR5 memory, enabling the feature may help reduce memory latency and deliver a small but useful performance boost in games and other latency-sensitive workloads.

As always, updating the BIOS should be done carefully. Users should confirm that the BIOS version is intended for their exact motherboard model and read the release notes before installing. Since some updates may still be beta versions, users who rely on maximum system stability may prefer to wait for a final release.

The arrival of AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency on 600-series motherboards is good news for AM5 users. It extends the value of existing X670E, X670, B650E, and B650 platforms by bringing newer memory optimization features to older boards. For PC builders, gamers, and hardware enthusiasts, this means better DDR5 performance may be just one BIOS update away.
