Apple’s iPhone 18 Series Poised for Breakthrough with Uniform 2nm Chipset Integration Across All Models

Initially, there was some disappointment when analyst Jeff Pu suggested Apple’s 2026 iPhones might still use a 3nm chipset from TSMC. However, fresh insights from Ming-Chi Kuo, another industry analyst, paint a more optimistic picture. Kuo believes that Apple’s next-generation iPhone 18 lineup could benefit from this cutting-edge 2nm technology.

Kuo’s confidence stems from the improved yields in TSMC’s 2nm trial productions, which have reportedly surpassed their previous 60 percent mark. This improvement likely means that TSMC can ramp up production to meet Apple’s demand for the entirety of the iPhone 18 lineup. While earlier expectations indicated that only the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max would feature the 2nm chipset due to cost constraints, Kuo’s remarks now suggest the 2nm A20 might power all iPhone 18 models.

However, don’t be surprised if Apple continues its tradition of differentiating models by their GPU capabilities. Just as with the iPhone 16 series, where variations in the A18 chipset’s GPU differentiated the models, the A20 could follow a similar path. The base A20 could vary from the A20 Pro in terms of GPU cores, offering subtle performance differences across the lineup.
