Introducing new features to the Apple Watch lineup has proven to be a significant challenge for the tech giant. This struggle was highlighted by a 19 percent drop in shipments during Q4 2024. Integrating cutting-edge health sensors into a small, compact wearable demands innovation and precision. Blood glucose monitoring, a highly anticipated feature, has remained elusive for Apple. Fortunately, according to industry insights, this feature might finally become a reality in just a couple of years.
Analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities suggests that blood glucose monitoring could debut soon. His predictions, shared on social media and noted by AppleInsider, indicate that this feature could enhance the Apple Watch lineup, possibly by Series 13. Alongside this, Pu forecasts the arrival of more affordable products like Apple Vision Air and smart glasses in 2027, marking a pivotal year for Apple.
Despite these predictions, the road to incorporating blood glucose monitoring hasn’t been smooth. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted in 2023 that although a non-invasive sensor reached the ‘proof of concept’ stage, practical application was hindered by its size. Current models like the Apple Watch Series 10 continue with existing features, but prototypes suggest potential advancements.
However, the precise details remain uncertain. It’s unclear whether any Apple Watch Ultra models will include this feature, and there’s no concrete evidence from the supply chain to confirm Apple’s plans. With these predictions, it’s wise to remain cautious and await further updates on this innovative development.
