Anbernic Supercharges Five Handheld Consoles With Fresh Upgrades, RG Slide Included

Anbernic is bringing a fresh software experience to five of its gaming handhelds with a new OTA update packed with useful features for everyday play. The latest update introduces what the company calls the RG ecosystem, a collection of interface and control improvements designed to make its Android-based handhelds feel smoother, faster, and more console-like.

The update is rolling out to five Anbernic devices, including the RG Slide, which arrived in 2025. The other supported handhelds were released in 2024. Unlike some earlier software releases that required users to manually download and install files, this update is being delivered over the air, making the process much easier for owners.

One of the biggest additions is RG Home, a new launcher that blends the familiar Android interface with a gaming-focused layout. The goal is to give players quicker access to their games and apps while keeping the system simple to navigate. Users can switch between the Android-style interface and the gaming UI, giving them more flexibility depending on how they want to use the device.

RG Home also supports navigation through both physical controls and the touchscreen, which should make browsing menus feel more natural on handheld hardware. Additional customization options include the ability to hide apps, lock apps, and create folders, helping users organize their libraries and keep the home screen cleaner.

Another major feature arriving with the update is RG Control Center. This new quick-access panel lets users adjust important system settings without digging through multiple menus. By swiping in from the right side of the screen, players can reach options for performance controls, fan speed, connectivity settings, and RGB lighting.

For handheld gaming fans, this could be one of the most practical changes in the update. Being able to quickly tune performance or fan behavior can make a noticeable difference when switching between lightweight retro games and more demanding titles.

The RG Slide is also getting an extra feature tied to its sliding design. With the new update, users can adjust standby behavior depending on whether the device is open or closed. This gives RG Slide owners more control over how the handheld manages power and sleep states during daily use.

The final major addition is RG Button Mapping, a feature aimed at touch-based Android games. It allows users to create custom physical control layouts for games that normally rely on touchscreen input. Players can save different control profiles and switch between them inside a game, making it easier to enjoy mobile titles with traditional handheld buttons.

Overall, this new Anbernic OTA update is focused on convenience, customization, and better handheld gaming usability. With RG Home, RG Control Center, improved standby options for the RG Slide, and button mapping for touch games, the update should make supported Anbernic handhelds feel more polished and easier to use.
