Anbernic Rolls Out New MU 2 Interface Update for RG XX Handhelds
Anbernic is giving its RG XX handheld lineup a fresh software upgrade with a redesigned user interface aimed at making navigation faster, cleaner, and easier for retro gaming fans. The latest update is now available for multiple devices in the RG XX series, bringing a new theme called MU 2 along with several usability improvements.
Unlike some handheld gaming brands that rarely update older devices, Anbernic continues to support its retro gaming hardware with regular software improvements. This new release focuses on improving the overall experience rather than simply fixing small bugs, making it a worthwhile update for owners of compatible RG XX models.
The biggest change is the new MU 2 theme. Anbernic describes it as offering a more intuitive menu layout and a more convenient user experience. In practice, this means players should be able to move through menus more smoothly, find games faster, and access important settings with fewer button presses.
One of the most useful additions is quicker access to the settings menu. After installing the update, users can press the M button to open settings more easily. The Y button can now bring up the quick search menu, helping players locate games without scrolling through long libraries.
Navigation has also been improved. Users can switch between the main menu sections using the L1 and R1 shoulder buttons, while the D-pad is used to control sub-menus. These sub-menus now appear in a horizontal layout, which should make browsing feel more natural on Anbernic’s compact handheld screens.
The update also introduces a new font and a better-organized game list. For players with large retro game collections, this could make a noticeable difference, especially when moving between different systems and titles.
The new Anbernic RG XX update must be installed manually. Users will need a microSD card with at least 64GB of storage to complete the process. Owners should download the correct update package for their specific handheld model and follow Anbernic’s installation instructions carefully to avoid issues.
This software release is a welcome improvement for anyone using an Anbernic RG XX handheld. With the MU 2 interface, faster menu access, improved search, cleaner navigation, and a more organized game library, the update should make these retro gaming devices feel more polished and user-friendly.
