AI Boom Drives Tech Toward $30 Trillion as Servers Become 2027’s Supply Chain Backbone

AI Servers Set to Power the Next Big Growth Wave in the Tech Industry

The global technology sector is preparing for another major shift, and artificial intelligence is at the center of it. According to Taiwan’s Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute, servers and data center supply chains are expected to become the key growth engines for major information and communications technology products in 2027.

The surge is being fueled by rising demand for AI computing power, cloud infrastructure, enterprise digital transformation, and large-scale data processing. As businesses, governments, and technology providers continue investing in artificial intelligence, the need for powerful server systems is growing rapidly.

Global server shipments are forecast to climb 12.4% year-over-year in 2027, reaching 18.6 million units. This growth reflects the expanding role of data centers in supporting AI applications, cloud services, edge computing, and high-performance computing workloads.

AI servers are expected to grow even faster. Shipments of AI-focused servers are projected to rise 17.8% to 5.4 million units. These systems are designed to handle demanding workloads such as generative AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, and large language model training.

This strong momentum highlights how artificial intelligence is reshaping the ICT supply chain. Component makers, server manufacturers, cooling solution providers, networking equipment suppliers, and data center operators are all expected to benefit from the expansion.

The rise of AI servers also points to a broader change in technology spending. Instead of focusing only on consumer devices, the industry is increasingly driven by infrastructure investment. Companies are racing to build faster, more efficient, and more scalable computing environments to stay competitive in the AI era.

As AI adoption continues to accelerate, data centers will remain one of the most important foundations of the digital economy. With server demand expected to rise sharply in 2027, the ICT industry appears set for a new growth cycle led by artificial intelligence and next-generation computing infrastructure.
