Acer Googlebook 14 Debuts as the Most Affordable Googlebook Yet, With OLED Display and 2-in-1 Design
The new wave of Googlebooks has officially arrived, introducing an Android-based laptop platform backed by major PC manufacturers. Pre-orders for the first models are already open, and while the pricing does not quite reach the ultra-low expectations some may have hoped for, the lineup is still positioned as a more accessible alternative to premium laptops.
Among the first releases, the Acer Googlebook 14 stands out as the most affordable option so far. Even more interestingly, it is also the only convertible 2-in-1 model in the initial lineup, giving users the flexibility of both a laptop and a tablet-style device.
The Acer Googlebook 14 comes with a 14-inch WQXGA+ OLED touchscreen display, offering a sharp 2,880 x 1,800 resolution. The panel supports a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, making it a strong choice for streaming, browsing, productivity, and creative work.
Because this is a convertible laptop, the display can fold all the way back for a tablet-like experience. It also supports stylus input through the USI 2.0 protocol, which should appeal to students, note-takers, artists, and anyone who prefers writing or sketching directly on the screen.
Under the hood, the Acer Googlebook 14 uses Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 Series 3 processors, also known as Panther Lake. While all Googlebook models begin with 16 GB of RAM as a baseline, Acer says this model can be configured with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512 GB of NVMe storage. At launch, however, the 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage version appears to be the main configuration available.
Battery life is another major selling point. Acer has equipped the Googlebook 14 with a 71 Wh battery that supports fast charging. According to Acer, users can expect up to 16 hours of web browsing or up to 14 hours of video playback, putting it in line with the expected standard for the new Googlebook platform.
Connectivity is also well covered. The laptop includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, three USB Type-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 4, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The backlit keyboard offers 1.3 mm of key travel, and there is also a fingerprint scanner for quick and secure login.
Despite its convertible design, the Acer Googlebook 14 remains impressively portable. Acer uses an aluminum and magnesium chassis to keep the weight low, resulting in a device that weighs just 1.14 kg and measures 13.9 mm thick. That makes it easy to carry for school, work, travel, or everyday use.
Like other Googlebook models, the Acer Googlebook 14 is designed around Gemini Intelligence. Thanks to its Android-based Googlebook OS, the device is expected to offer deeper integration with Android smartphones, making it easier to move between phone and laptop for messages, apps, files, and productivity features.
The Acer Googlebook 14 is priced at $899 for the model with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. That price includes the standardized Googlebook platform features, along with the added benefit of a lightweight 2-in-1 OLED design. For now, only one color option has been announced.
Pre-orders are currently available through select online retailers and the Google Store. General sales are scheduled to begin on October 5. The Acer Googlebook 14 will launch in additional regions, including Canada and EMEA markets, later in October. Australia is expected to receive the device in November.
With its OLED touchscreen, convertible build, modern Intel processors, long battery life, and relatively competitive price, the Acer Googlebook 14 could become one of the most appealing early choices for buyers interested in the new Googlebook category.
