YouTuber KingSener recently pulled off an impressive feat by upgrading their brand-new iPhone 16 Pro from a modest 128GB to a whopping 1TB of storage. The process was intricate and required a fair bit of technical expertise, starting with the simple task of removing two screws at the bottom of the phone. KingSener then applied anhydrous alcohol to soften the adhesive securing the back cover, allowing them to carefully dismantle the device.
With the internals exposed, KingSener meticulously disconnected numerous parts and cables, all leading up to the removal of the mainboard. This was no small task; it involved removing foam and several tiny components to eventually access the iPhone’s data storage chip. But the real challenge began when KingSener used a CNC grinder to obliterate the original 128GB storage chip into dust.
Following the difficult and precise task of cleaning the solder pads, KingSener installed a brand-new 1TB NAND chip. After carefully reconnecting all the components and cables, and securely placing the mainboard back, they were ready to test the enhanced device.
To validate the storage upgrade, KingSener conducted a read-and-write test using AnTuTu. The results were striking: the data transfer speed score jumped from an original 51,398 to an impressive 81,701 post-upgrade.
For context, the iPhone 16 Pro with 128GB storage retails at $999 before taxes, while the 1TB model comes with a hefty price tag of $1,499. KingSener’s DIY upgrade route cost less than $500, demonstrating a significant saving. However, this kind of modification is not for the faint-hearted or the inexperienced; it requires specific skills in machining and soldering.
For those who prefer a less risky and technical approach, Amazon currently offers a Renewed Premium iPhone 14 with 128GB of storage for just $509, making it an attractive alternative for budget-conscious buyers.
