Marques Brownlee, the well-known creator behind the popular YouTube channel MKBHD with nearly 20 million subscribers, has recently faced criticism for his driving habits. Previously, he was caught speeding at an alarming 96MPH in a 35MPH zone where child safety warnings were prominently displayed. However, new details from bodycam footage suggest this wasn’t an isolated incident; rather, he’s been involved in multiple traffic violations.
A YouTube channel focusing on transparency issues shared the footage on December 15, showcasing several occasions where Marques was pulled over for traffic offenses. These incidents occurred on June 30, 2023, and as recently as August 11, 2024, revealing a pattern of traffic violations by the tech influencer.
In one instance, Marques was stopped while driving a Tesla with heavily tinted mirrors. Without his driver’s license on hand, he was still identified and let go. On another occasion, he was driving 59MPH in a 25MPH zone. Thankfully, the responding officer opted to give him a citation for unclear plates, resulting in a minor $55 fine. The most recent occurrence also involved a citation for his vehicle’s plates at a gas station.
Such repeated offenses suggest that Marques may not be fully adhering to traffic regulations. Considering his substantial influence within the tech community, there is concern about the message this sends to his vast audience. As a prominent figure, his actions are closely watched, and there’s a responsibility to model safer behavior on and off the road.
