Xiaomi is refreshing its entry-level lineup with the new Redmi A7, bringing a few practical upgrades where budget phone buyers tend to care most: battery features and screen brightness. While it keeps much of the familiar formula, the Redmi A7 tweaks a handful of key specs to make the day-to-day experience a bit more convenient—especially for users who want a big display and long battery life at a low price.
One of the biggest constants is the 5,200 mAh battery, which remains a strong selling point for an affordable Android phone. Charging stays the same at up to 15W via wired charging, but Xiaomi has added something new this time: 7.5W reverse wired charging. That means the Redmi A7 can share power with compatible devices using a cable, which is useful in a pinch for topping up accessories or another phone.
On the front, Xiaomi continues with a large 6.9-inch IPS display at 720p resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The improvement here is brightness. The panel can now reach up to 600 nits, up from 450 nits on the previous model, which should make the screen easier to see in brighter environments like outdoors or near windows.
Not every change is an upgrade, though. Xiaomi has made a noticeable cut to the rear camera setup. The previous 32MP f/2.0 camera has been replaced with a 13MP f/2.2 sensor on the Redmi A7. For buyers who prioritize sharper photos or better low-light performance, this downgrade is worth keeping in mind.
Hardware configurations are also limited. The Redmi A7 is only available with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, positioning it firmly as a basic smartphone for everyday tasks like calls, messaging, social apps, and light browsing rather than heavy multitasking.
In terms of design options, the Redmi A7 comes in Black and Sky Blue. Pricing is set at INR 14,999 (around $159), but Xiaomi is offering a launch discount that drops the price to INR 10,499 (around $111), making it a more compelling pick for budget-conscious shoppers looking for a large, high-refresh display and strong battery life at an affordable cost.
