Xiaomi Unveils Ultra-Slim 12.5-Inch Tablet Powered by Snapdragon 8 Series Chip

Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro launches with Snapdragon power, 144Hz display, and a huge battery

Xiaomi has expanded its tablet lineup in China with the launch of the new Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro, arriving alongside the company’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series smartphones. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the larger Pro Max model, the Pad 9 Pro aims to deliver premium performance, strong entertainment features, and productivity-focused tools at a lower starting price.

At the heart of the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. While it is not the newest top-tier processor, it remains a powerful sub-flagship platform capable of handling everyday tasks, multitasking, media editing, gaming, and even more demanding workloads such as PC game emulation. Xiaomi offers the tablet with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, giving users plenty of memory for smooth app switching and enough space for games, documents, videos, and creative projects.

The tablet features a 12.5-inch display designed for both work and entertainment. Although Xiaomi has not used an OLED panel here, the screen still offers impressive specs, including up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness and a 144Hz refresh rate. That high refresh rate should make scrolling, gaming, and stylus input feel noticeably smoother. Dolby Vision support also helps improve the viewing experience when streaming movies and shows.

Audio is another major part of the Pad 9 Pro’s entertainment appeal. Xiaomi has equipped the tablet with a six-speaker system, making it a strong option for users who want a portable device for watching videos, listening to music, attending video calls, or playing games without always needing headphones.

Despite its large screen and big battery, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro is built with portability in mind. The tablet is said to measure around 5.8mm thin and weighs approximately 580 grams, making it slim enough to carry in a backpack or use comfortably around the home, office, or classroom.

Battery life is one of the standout features. The Pad 9 Pro packs an 11,000mAh battery, and Xiaomi claims it can deliver up to 14.5 hours of video playback. For users who rely on a tablet throughout the day, that capacity should provide strong endurance for browsing, streaming, note-taking, reading, and productivity. The tablet also supports 67W fast charging, so topping it up should be relatively quick compared with many large-screen tablets.

Xiaomi is also targeting users who want a tablet that can do more than media playback. The Pad 9 Pro supports productivity accessories, including the Focus Stylus Pro with 16K pressure sensitivity and the Focus Keyboard with a large trackpad. These accessories could make the tablet more useful for writing, drawing, editing, presentations, and light laptop-style workflows.

On the software side, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro runs HyperOS 4 out of the box. Xiaomi is also promoting support for PC-level productivity apps, including WPS for Pad and CapCut Pro, making the device more appealing to students, creators, and professionals who want a versatile tablet for both work and entertainment.

Other key features include a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, a 50MP rear camera, and WiFi 7 support for faster wireless connectivity on compatible networks. These additions help position the Pad 9 Pro as a well-rounded Android tablet with modern connectivity and useful hardware upgrades.

In China, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro starts at CNY 3,799, which is roughly $566. The top configuration with the highest RAM and storage option is priced at CNY 4,999, or around $745.

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro is expected to reach global markets later, possibly alongside the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. However, Xiaomi has not yet confirmed official international pricing or release dates. If it launches globally at a competitive price, the Pad 9 Pro could become an attractive option for anyone looking for a powerful Android tablet with a large 144Hz display, long battery life, stylus support, and strong performance for both entertainment and productivity.
