Xiaomi 17 Ultra Goes Global: Fresh Leaks Reveal What’s New After Its Initial Launch

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about next-generation “Ultra” smartphones, but anyone waiting for the international version may want to temper expectations. While the phone is still believed to be a month or two away from a global unveiling, new details suggest the worldwide model could arrive with a notable downgrade compared to the version sold in Xiaomi’s home market.

The biggest change reportedly comes down to battery size. Xiaomi is expected to limit the Xiaomi 17 Ultra global model to a 6,000 mAh battery, which is around a 12% reduction versus the Chinese variant. For buyers who prioritize long battery life—especially those using camera-heavy features, gaming, or all-day navigation—this could be a meaningful difference in day-to-day use.

Interestingly, a 6,000 mAh battery wouldn’t be new territory for Xiaomi’s Ultra line. This is said to match the battery capacity found in the Chinese edition of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, suggesting Xiaomi may be sticking to familiar battery specifications for international markets even as its domestic models move ahead.

There is some good news, though: charging speeds don’t appear to take the same hit. Early information indicates the Xiaomi 17 Ultra should still support 90 W wired charging, whether you choose the global model or import the Chinese version. That means even with a smaller battery, fast top-ups could help offset the capacity reduction for many users.

Timing-wise, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to land in the middle of a crowded premium-phone window. Several competing Ultra flagships are tipped to launch within weeks of each other from late February through early April. Xiaomi’s international debut for the 17 Ultra could align with that schedule, with an announcement likely around MWC 2026, taking place from March 2 to March 5.

For now, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra global version looks set to deliver flagship-grade charging and the signature Ultra branding, but with a smaller battery than the Chinese model. If maximum battery capacity is your number-one priority, it may be worth keeping a close eye on confirmed specs as the global launch approaches.
