Xbox Series X|S Sales Under 30 Million, Insider Reports Reveal Lower Numbers

The gaming community is buzzing over the mixed reports on Xbox Series X and S console sales. Insiders offer differing estimates, spanning from under 30 million to around 37 million units. The debate intensifies with leaker KeplerL2 challenging optimistic sales projections using an AMD fiscal report.

Recently, analyst Welfare claimed that Microsoft sold approximately 37 million Xbox Series consoles globally. However, there’s skepticism due to slowed sales, particularly when KeplerL2 argues for a figure under 30 million. His claim is backed by AMD’s Q4 2024 fiscal report, tracking over 100 million current-gen console sales including PS5, Xbox, and Steam Deck. With Sony confirming over 75 million PS5 units sold by late 2024, subtracting those plus 4 million Steam Deck sales leaves Xbox with about 21 million.

Confusion arises from contrasting manufacturer and publisher reports. By February 2025, Take-Two Interactive noted 94 million current-gen console sales by November 2024, with PS5 making up 65.6 million by September. Considering year-end sales, Xbox estimates could reach 27 million units. This discrepancy highlights the complex nature of tracking sales accurately, with VGChartz estimating over 32 million Xbox consoles sold.

While some view KeplerL2’s analyses with skepticism, given his focus on leaks about upcoming consoles, it’s clear that PlayStation is pulling ahead in the console race. As the debate continues, it’s evident that Xbox faces challenges in keeping pace with its rival.
