Vivo is already building excitement for its next flagship smartphone, and the biggest focus so far is the camera system. While the device is still expected to be months away from launch, early details suggest the upcoming Vivo X500 Pro Max could deliver a major leap in mobile photography, especially for users who shoot at night or record video while moving.

Vivo product manager Han Boxiao has shared new information about the phone’s upgraded image stabilization system. According to the details, the main camera will feature three-axis image stabilization, offering twice the movement range compared with the Vivo X300 Ultra. This could make the Vivo X500 Pro Max one of the most capable camera phones for handheld shooting.

The most impressive claim is that the new stabilization system may allow exposure times up to seven stops longer without producing blurry images. In practical terms, a smartphone camera without image stabilization usually struggles to capture sharp handheld photos at around 1/24 of a second, even with steady hands. Vivo’s upgraded system is said to make it possible to capture sharp handheld shots with exposure times as long as 4 seconds, as long as the subject remains still.

That could be a major advantage for low-light photography. Longer exposure times allow the camera sensor to gather more light without needing to rely heavily on high ISO settings. The result should be brighter nighttime photos with less noise, improved detail, and better dynamic range. For users who enjoy cityscapes, indoor photography, night scenes, or creative long-exposure shots, this could be one of the phone’s standout features.

The improved stabilization should also benefit video recording. Walking shots, handheld panning, and fast movement could appear smoother and more controlled, reducing the shake that often affects smartphone footage. Vivo has already confirmed that the main camera will support 4K video recording at up to 240 frames per second, which points to strong slow-motion video capabilities as well.

The main camera is expected to use a 50-megapixel Sony L910 sensor in a 1/1.28-inch format. Combined with the enhanced stabilization system, this sensor could help the Vivo X500 Pro Max compete strongly in the premium smartphone camera market.
