Vietnam has officially granted Starlink an operating licence, marking a major step forward for satellite internet availability in the country. With regulatory approval now in place, the SpaceX-backed service can begin moving from planning to action—setting up the necessary ground infrastructure and preparing to connect households and businesses that may not have reliable access to traditional broadband.
The newly issued licence clears the path for an initial rollout that allows Starlink to serve up to 600,000 user terminals. That cap outlines the first phase of deployment and signals a structured, controlled expansion as the service establishes operations locally. In practical terms, it means Starlink can start delivering high-speed satellite internet to a significant number of users while building out support systems and network coverage.
Starlink’s entry is likely to draw attention because satellite internet can play a critical role in connecting remote, rural, and hard-to-reach areas where laying fiber or upgrading mobile networks can be expensive and slow. By using a constellation of satellites paired with local ground stations and user terminals, Starlink aims to provide internet access in places where conventional infrastructure struggles.
With the operating licence secured, the focus now shifts to execution: deploying ground stations, distributing user equipment, and expanding service availability as demand grows. For Vietnam’s connectivity landscape, the approval represents a notable development—one that could broaden internet access options and support wider digital growth as the rollout progresses.
