After more than two years since launching its distinctive handheld gaming device, Panic has introduced a matching AC charger designed specifically for the Playdate. This quirky little device, known for its signature yellow color, monochrome screen, and iconic crank, now has an accompanying charger that reflects its playful aesthetic.
Despite the absence of a charger in the original Playdate packaging, Panic compensates by providing a matching yellow USB-A to USB-C cable. Now, the brand has completed the ensemble with a bright yellow charging adapter, enhancing the overall user experience. This move mimics certain phone manufacturers who also choose not to include chargers with their devices.
The newly launched charger is a compact rectangular brick offering a power output of 10 watts. It features a NEMA Type 1 plug, making it suitable for use in North America and Japan, and comes equipped with a USB-A port. While a USB-C port might have been desirable for some users, the USB-A connection aligns with the included cable, offering consistency across the board.
Pricing the adapter at an affordable $5, Panic ensures that it’s accessible to its user base. To sweeten the deal, they offer an additional USB cable for the same price. A one-year warranty backs the value proposition, providing assurance for buyers. Shipping times are efficient, with delivery within the USA taking about a week, and international shipping ranging from two to four weeks.
This new addition to the Playdate ecosystem highlights Panic’s commitment to providing a cohesive and user-friendly experience for its consumers, all while keeping the playful spirit of the original device alive.
