The smartphone market is set to welcome a new mid-range contender as Samsung prepares to launch its Galaxy A55 5G. Slated for an early release next month, specifically on March 11, the Galaxy A55 5G arrives alongside the more budget-friendly Galaxy A35 5G. Information on official accessories for these devices has also come to light, although they will be addressed in a separate discussion.
Anticipated features of the Galaxy A55 5G include an Exynos 1480 chipset, a 120 Hz AMOLED display, a 50 MP primary camera, and a robust 5,000 mAh battery. Prospective buyers should expect to see two pricing tiers for this model based on memory configurations. For a base model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, a price of €449 is likely. A higher-tier option with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is also expected to be available at this same price point.
While the Galaxy A55 5G’s specifications seem solid, its market position may be challenged by competitors offering more value for a similar or lower cost. Comparatively, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G is currently available at €449 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage and an even higher memory option for €499. At the base model level, the Redmi offers a greater value that is €50 less expensive than the Galaxy A55 5G’s equivalent configuration.
In addition, the Nothing Phone (2a) is set to make waves with its competitive pricing, rumored to be €349 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, or €399 for a variant with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It also has the upper hand in launch timing, as it will be introduced a few days before the Galaxy A55 5G on March 5.
Despite facing stiff competition in terms of pricing and specifications, the Galaxy A55 5G does aim to stand out with its software support. Samsung is expected to offer five years of updates starting with One UI 6.1 and Android 14, which is a considerable commitment to longevity not always seen in the mid-range market.
As the Galaxy A55 5G gears up for its anticipated release, industry watchers and consumers alike will be keen to see how it fares against its keenly priced competitors in the bustling mid-range segment.
