Decathlon recently pulled the cover off their latest electric bike, the BTWIN LD 940 E, at a rebranding event. This new model shares some features with its predecessor, the LD 920 E, such as the OWURU motor and long-lasting 702 Wh battery. It differentiates itself with an improved smart system and added suspension that seeks to up the ante on ride comfort.
What stands out for the BTWIN LD 940 E is its smart capabilities, such as a refined system that connects to your phone. This integration enables real-time access to important cycling metrics like your speed and journey statistics. Furthermore, riders can make use of app-based features, including GPS tracking of the bike’s location.
The bike’s design emphasizes ease of access with its open, step-through frame, likely making it a more user-friendly option for a wider range of cyclists. Additional updates include a suspension seat post, which is incorporated to absorb shock and deliver a smoother biking experience.
At the heart of the e-bike is a 250W mid-mounted motor that can surge up to 600W power and deliver 65 Nm of torque, courtesy of Owuru. It boasts an impressive range, capable of covering approximately 93 miles on a single charge when in Economy mode, thanks to its 702 Wh battery.
Complementing the bike’s mechanical prowess, Decathlon has kitted it with practical components such as 30 mm travel suspension fork, 28-inch Vittoria e-Radonneur tires, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power. Furthermore, for the daily commuter or weekend adventurer, the e-bike includes a myriad of accessories like a rear luggage rack, mudguards, and integrated front and rear lighting for visibility.
Although the exact pricing for the BTWIN LD 940 E has not been confirmed, it is predicted to be above the €2,999/£3,200 price point set by the older LD 920 E model due to the new features and enhancements. A limited release is expected in Belgium towards the end of the year, followed by a broader launch slated for early 2025.
For those considering an upgrade or entry into the electric biking world, the Decathlon BTWIN LD 940 E could represent an intriguing blend of smart tech and cycling comfort. Whether it’s for the daily commute or leisurely rides, this e-bike appears to be gearing up to deliver a high-quality cycling experience.
