MSI has introduced an exciting feature that promises to enhance the performance of Intel’s latest Core Ultra 200 CPUs by significantly reducing memory latency. Dubbed the “Memory Extension Mode,” this innovative feature is designed for MSI’s 800-series motherboards, offering three distinctive presets tailored to maximize performance: Performance Mode, Benchmark Mode, and Memtest Mode.
The new Memory Extension Mode intelligently determines the best memory setups by analyzing the processor’s integrated memory controller (IMC) and memory overclocking capabilities. This ensures that users can enjoy the most optimized performance experience based on their specific computing needs.
Recent benchmarks released by MSI demonstrate substantial performance improvements. Testing with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor paired with DDR5-7200 and DDR5-8200 memory modules, MSI’s Memory Extension mode in “High-Efficiency” mode achieved a reduction in memory latency of 12%-16%, as measured by AIDA64 memory latency benchmarks. The test setup included:
– CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
– Motherboard: MSI MEG Z890 ACE
– Memory: Galax DDR5-7200 16GBx2 & G.Skill DDR5-8200 24GBx2
– Graphics Card: MSI GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
– SSD: Kingston SNV2S/2000G
– CPU Cooler: MSI CORELIQUID I360
– Power Supply: MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5
– Operating System: Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.2033
In gaming benchmarks, using NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, notable gains of 6%-14% in 1080p gaming performance were observed in popular titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Red Dead Redemption 2. In certain scenarios with the DDR5-7200 memory in XMP + High-Efficiency Mode, the performance improvements soared to an impressive 21%.
The inclusion of Memory Extension Mode is a strategic move by MSI to boost system performance through a seamless software approach. For those owning MSI motherboards of the 700 series and above, enabling this feature is straightforward. It starts with accessing the new Click BIOS X by switching from EZ Mode to Advanced Mode. There, on the Overclocking page, users can easily locate and activate the Memory Extension Mode of their choice.
Additionally, Intel is also focused on enhancing gaming performance for the Core Ultra 200S Desktop CPUs through upcoming Windows Updates, BIOS patches, and microcode updates scheduled for release towards the end of the year.
With these groundbreaking improvements, both MSI and Intel are setting the stage for a new era of high-performance computing, ensuring that users can achieve outstanding speeds and efficiency in various tasks and gaming experiences.
