In a surprising twist for the gaming laptop market, Chinese manufacturer Sakuromoto has introduced two unconventional devices featuring some eyebrow-raising CPU-GPU combinations that remind us of days gone by—specifically, almost a decade ago. These are not your typical latest-gen tech pairings; instead, they tread a different path, possibly to make use of older hardware components.
First up is the Inter Book, a laptop geared with the GeForce GTX 1060. This budget-friendly GPU from the 2016 Pascal series packs 6 GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Curiously, it partners with an Intel N95 processor, a rather modest entry from the Alder Lake family. Interestingly, Sakuromoto markets this chip as akin to a “Core i9-class” processor, though that claim seems to stretch reality—given that the N95 doesn’t quite hold a candle to Core i9 processors.
Even the display sparks intrigue. Labeled as “4K-class,” it actually delivers a 1080p resolution. While the GTX 1060 mobile can handle medium gaming settings at 1080p, the bottleneck presented by the N95’s 4-core and 15W configuration could hinder performance considerably.
The oddities continue with Sakuromoto’s Rescue series. This model pairs the high-performance Core i9 12900H, featuring 14 cores, with an NVIDIA MX550 GPU—a Turing-based chip that’s notably more modest than the GTX 1060. It’s debatable whether the integrated GPU on the i9 might outperform the MX550, raising questions about the necessity of including the MX550 at all. Nonetheless, the presentation materials depict an impressive triple-fan desktop GPU, adding to the unusual marketing narrative.
Despite the MX550 receiving a spec boost with VRAM increased to 4 GB and TDP to 38W, expectations for gaming remain modest, with performance likely suited to basic tasks such as photo and video editing rather than intensive gaming.
These quirky pairings from Sakuromoto offer a fascinating glimpse into how older technology components can be revived, though they might not satisfy hardcore gaming enthusiasts looking for cutting-edge performance.
