LG is preparing to launch a new high-end gaming monitor, and fresh details suggest it’s designed for players who want both crisp resolution and ultra-smooth speed. The LG UltraGear Evo 27GM950B was first shown in late December ahead of CES 2026 in Las Vegas, alongside other upcoming UltraGear displays, and it’s now shaping up to be one of the most interesting mini-LED options in LG’s gaming lineup.
At the heart of the UltraGear Evo 27GM950B is a 27-inch IPS panel paired with an advanced mini-LED backlight system. LG is using 2,304 local dimming zones, which helps the monitor control brightness and contrast more precisely across different areas of the screen. That also enables peak brightness up to 1,250 nits in certain scenes, a key reason the display has earned VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. In practical terms, this should translate into punchier highlights, better HDR impact, and more convincing contrast than typical edge-lit IPS gaming monitors.
Color performance is another major selling point. LG says the UltraGear Evo 27GM950B covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space, which is widely used in HDR gaming and video content. The monitor is also rated for very low black levels at 0.05 nit, helping darker scenes look cleaner and less washed out—an area where many IPS gaming panels can struggle compared to OLED.
Where this monitor becomes especially appealing for competitive and enthusiast gamers is its flexible performance modes. It can run in a super-sharp 5K2K resolution (5,210 x 2,880) at up to 165Hz, which is ideal for players who want maximum detail, as well as creators who value extra screen real estate. Prefer pure speed? Switch to WQHD (2,560 x 1,440) and the refresh rate jumps to 330Hz, targeting esports and high-FPS gaming where motion clarity and responsiveness matter most.
Connectivity looks modern and well-rounded, with HDMI, DisplayPort 2.1, and USB Type-C included. The USB-C port is also capable of delivering up to 90W of power, allowing you to charge a laptop or compatible device while using the monitor—useful for streamlined desk setups and work-from-home flexibility.
LG has confirmed that pre-orders for the UltraGear Evo 27GM950B will begin soon in Japan. Pricing and release plans for other regions have not been announced yet, but given the monitor’s mini-LED backlight, HDR certification, and high refresh rate options, it’s likely aimed at the premium gaming monitor market.
If you’re weighing your next upgrade and want a display that blends high-end HDR, wide color coverage, and the ability to choose between 5K clarity or 330Hz speed, the LG UltraGear Evo 27GM950B is a monitor to watch as global availability details emerge.
