Ubiquiti Networks has unveiled the innovative Unifi OS Server, opening new possibilities for managing Unifi environments. This exciting development allows users to run UniFi OS seamlessly on their own Windows, macOS, or Linux systems. The company assures users that all features remain fully accessible with this new option.
Primarily designed for managed service providers, the Unifi OS Server allows self-hosting of the complete UniFi Network stack on personal server hardware while maintaining cloud connectivity. This flexibility means users can configure the server to perfectly fit their individual needs without being tied to Ubiquiti’s hardware.
Compatible with virtual machines and systems using X86, X64, or ARM64 architectures, the Unifi OS Server does not require an internet connection to function. Notably, Ubiquiti continues to embrace its roots by forgoing license management, focusing instead on revenue through hardware interconnected with the Unifi OS Server.
This move aims to attract new customer segments, echoing past methods where users installed WLAN controllers on personal hardware for cost-effective solutions. This strategic step leverages familiar practices, offering economical benefits through versatile and affordable setups.
