IEI Nano-X100 SBC Brings 16-Core AMD Zen 5 Power to Compact Edge AI Systems
IEI has introduced the Nano-X100, a compact single-board computer designed for demanding embedded, industrial, and edge AI workloads. Unlike many SBCs that focus on low-power entry-level performance, this new board targets the high-end market with AMD Ryzen AI Embedded X100 processors based on the Zen 5 architecture.
The Nano-X100 is built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Embedded X100 platform, which can scale up to 16 Zen 5 CPU cores. That puts it in the same performance class as AMD’s powerful Strix Halo-style chips, making this tiny board far more capable than a typical single-board computer used for basic development or lightweight automation.
IEI has not yet confirmed the exact CPU configurations that will be available for the Nano-X100, but the platform itself is clearly aimed at users who need serious compute performance in a small footprint. The board also supports up to 128 GB of LPDDR5-8533 memory, giving it enough bandwidth and capacity for advanced AI processing, machine vision, data analysis, and robotics applications.
Despite its compact size, the Nano-X100 offers an impressive selection of I/O options. It includes four external USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-A ports, one I2C connector, four internal RS-232 COM ports, and two internal RS-232/422/485 COM ports. Expansion is handled through three M.2 slots, including an M.2 2230 slot for wireless connectivity, an M.2 2242/2280 slot for storage, and an M.2 3052 slot for cellular modules.
Networking is another strong point, with dual 2.5GbE LAN ports included for high-speed wired connectivity. Display output is supported through HDMI and DisplayPort, making the board suitable for visual computing, industrial monitoring, digital signage, and AI-powered inspection systems.
The Nano-X100 measures just 11.5 x 16.5 cm, or around 4.5 x 6.5 inches. That small size makes it well suited for space-constrained environments where full x86 compatibility, strong CPU performance, and modern AI acceleration are required.
This type of compact industrial SBC can be useful in a wide range of advanced applications, including autonomous mobile robots, warehouse automation, machine vision systems, smart security analytics, medical imaging, diagnostic equipment, and edge AI inference. The combination of Zen 5 CPU cores, high-speed LPDDR5 memory, and integrated AMD graphics based on RDNA 3.5 gives the Nano-X100 a strong foundation for workloads that demand both compute power and graphics capability.
The use of a full x86 platform is also important for industrial customers. It can simplify software compatibility, make deployment easier, and allow businesses to run existing applications without needing to redesign their software stack around a different architecture.
IEI is not the only manufacturer preparing compact systems based on AMD’s Embedded X100 platform. Similar boards and modules are expected from other embedded hardware makers, which suggests AMD is pushing aggressively into high-performance edge computing and industrial AI systems.
Pricing for the Nano-X100 has not been announced. Since this board is aimed at enterprise, robotics, industrial automation, and AI deployment rather than casual hobbyist projects, it is likely to be expensive. Systems with comparable AMD Ryzen AI Max-class hardware already command premium prices, so the Nano-X100 will probably be positioned as a professional-grade solution rather than a budget-friendly development board.
For hobbyists or beginners exploring single-board computers, lower-cost options such as the Radxa Rock 5B+ may still make more sense. But for companies that need a compact x86 SBC with high memory capacity, modern AMD Zen 5 performance, strong connectivity, and edge AI potential, the IEI Nano-X100 could become one of the most powerful small-form-factor embedded boards on the market.
