Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow Sneaks Onto Headsets This December

Vertigo Games and Maze Theory have pulled back the curtain on Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, a virtual reality reimagining of the classic stealth franchise. The first gameplay reveal puts a spotlight on hands-on thievery, rooftop traversal, and shadowy infiltration, all tailored for VR. The game launches December 4 on SteamVR, Meta Quest 2 and 3, and PlayStation VR2.

Set in The City—a maze of rooftops, narrow alleys, and watchful patrols—power is enforced by Baron Ulysses Northcrest, a tyrant who crushes rebellion before it can spark. You play as Magpie, a street-hardened thief orphaned by Northcrest’s cruelty. What begins as survival turns into something far bigger when you uncover a legendary artifact tied to a buried legacy. To expose the conspiracy rotting The City from within, you’ll need to steal smart, move silent, and outthink the forces that hunt you.

Legacy of Shadow blends the soulful stealth of the original series with full-body VR immersion. Hide in darkness, lean to check corners, and use your hands to pickpocket, pry open hidden compartments, and feel every lock you crack. Your bow and an arsenal of specialized arrows and tools give you options to distract, disable, or quietly remove threats. Each heist encourages experimentation and replayability, offering multiple routes and playstyles—ghost past patrols unseen or strike from the shadows and vanish without a trace.

Developed by Maze Theory in close collaboration with Eidos-Montréal and published by Vertigo Games, this new chapter reimagines a beloved stealth legacy for a new generation of VR players. From steampunk-inspired districts to the ever-present City Watch, the atmosphere is thick with tension, making every step, breath, and decision count.
