Thermal Grizzly has expanded its lineup of pre-delidded AMD Ryzen 9000X3D processors, and all three options are now listed on the company’s official store, including the recently released Ryzen 7 9850X3D.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D only launched about three weeks ago, yet Thermal Grizzly has already added a delidded version for enthusiasts who want lower temperatures and more overclocking headroom. In stock form, the 9850X3D is currently positioned as AMD’s fastest gaming CPU, stepping in above the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with largely the same core specifications, but with an updated boost clock.
For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, delidding a CPU means removing the integrated heat spreader (IHS). Doing so exposes the silicon dies on the package, such as the CCD and IOD, which can improve thermal transfer when paired with advanced cooling solutions. The catch is that delidding typically voids a processor’s standard warranty. That’s a major reason pre-delidded chips appeal to hardcore builders: Thermal Grizzly includes its own coverage, allowing buyers to pursue maximum cooling performance without taking on the full risk alone.
That added handwork and warranty support doesn’t come cheap. Delidded CPUs are priced far above the standard retail versions. As an example, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D launched at $479, while its delidded variant was previously sold for $712. In the same premium category, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is listed at $1,168 compared to a $699 launch price.
Now, the Zen 5-based Ryzen 7 9850X3D (8 cores and 16 threads) joins the lineup in delidded form at $876.33, which is roughly $350 higher than its MSRP. In other words, this isn’t aimed at typical gamers looking for value. It’s built for enthusiast overclockers and performance-focused PC builders who are willing to pay extra to push an already top-tier gaming processor even further.
Thermal Grizzly also includes a clear warning for buyers: while the package ships with the stock heat spreader in the box, using that original IHS on the delidded CPU will void the included two-year warranty. This product is meant to be paired with an appropriate direct-die cooling setup rather than reassembled like a standard chip.
