The Sinking City 2 release date confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S
Frogwares has officially confirmed that The Sinking City 2 will launch on August 18 for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. PC players will be able to pick up the game through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
To mark the announcement, a new hour-long playable demo is now available on Steam, giving players an early look at the game’s eerie atmosphere, survival-focused gameplay, and new lead character, Calvin Rafferty. The demo introduces the flooded city of Arkham, a decaying nightmare filled with supernatural danger, Lovecraftian dread, and grotesque monsters lurking through its ruined streets.
The Sinking City 2 takes players into a dark reimagining of 1920s America, where Arkham has been devastated by a mysterious supernatural flood. Most of the city’s population has fled, leaving behind only the desperate, the deranged, and the monstrous. Rotting mansions, abandoned hospitals, drowned markets, and ruined neighborhoods set the stage for a survival horror experience built around exploration, limited resources, and deadly encounters.
This time, players step into the role of Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose reckless actions have caused terrible consequences. After a dreaming ritual goes horribly wrong, Calvin’s girlfriend, Faye, becomes trapped in a strange, unbreakable sleep. Determined to save her, Calvin ventures into the ruined city, where he must face not only his own guilt but also a terrifying outbreak of otherworldly creatures known as the Slither.
The Slither are among the game’s most disturbing threats. These unnatural beings possess and deform the dead, turning corpses into dangerous puppet-like horrors. As Calvin searches for answers, players will need to fight, scavenge, investigate, and survive while uncovering the secrets buried beneath Arkham’s flooded streets.
Frogwares has also spoken openly about the difficult development conditions behind the game. The studio explained that creating a game is already an unpredictable process, but doing so during wartime added another level of disruption. Plans had to be changed repeatedly, workflows were constantly adjusted, and the team had to adapt again and again as new challenges appeared.
Despite those obstacles, The Sinking City 2 is moving toward its August release with a stronger focus on survival horror than its predecessor. Players can expect tense combat, scarce supplies, atmospheric exploration, and a story rooted in personal loss, occult rituals, moral ambiguity, and cosmic terror.
Key gameplay features include 1920s-inspired weapons, both ranged and melee, that players can use against eldritch creatures. Survival will depend on careful resource management, as ammunition, healing items, and inventory space will be limited. Players will need to decide what to carry, what to leave behind, and when to fight or avoid danger.
Exploration also plays a major role. Arkham can be traversed both on foot and by boat, with its flooded districts hiding optional cases, puzzles, secrets, lore, and upgrades. Those who take the time to investigate beyond the main path will uncover more about the city, its horrors, and the forces that have twisted it into a living nightmare.
The Sinking City 2 is shaping up to be a grim and atmospheric survival horror game for fans of Lovecraftian stories, psychological dread, and monster-filled exploration. With its release date now set for August 18 and a Steam demo already available, players can get their first taste of Arkham’s horrors before the full game arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
