The Google Pixel 11 Pro XL brings a welcome charging upgrade, even though its official USB-C charging rating looks familiar at first glance. Like the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Google’s latest flagship supports wired charging at up to 45 watts. However, the company claims the new model can reach 75 percent battery in 30 minutes, compared with the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s advertised 70 percent in the same time frame.

Real-world testing suggests the Pixel 11 Pro XL does charge faster than its predecessor, but users may not always see the full speed Google promotes.

During testing, the Pixel 11 Pro XL reached a peak charging rate of about 40.7 watts at the beginning of the charging session. That is a noticeable improvement over the Pixel 10 Pro XL, which reportedly topped out closer to 35 watts under similar conditions. The phone maintained this higher power level for roughly nine minutes before gradually lowering the wattage.

That slowdown is normal for modern smartphones. Fast charging generates heat, and managing that heat is essential for protecting long-term battery health. Instead of holding maximum power until the battery is full, phones usually charge quickly at lower percentages and then reduce speed as the battery fills up.

The result is still a meaningful improvement. A full charge on the Pixel 11 Pro XL took around 69 minutes, which is about 12 minutes faster than the previous generation. For users who often need a quick top-up before leaving home, that difference can be useful.

However, there is an important detail buyers should know: not every powerful USB-C charger will deliver the Pixel 11 Pro XL’s best charging performance.

To hit its highest wired charging speeds, the phone requires a USB-C Power Delivery charger that supports 21 volts at 2 amps. This may sound simple, but some chargers rated at 67 watts or even 100 watts do not support that exact charging profile. In other words, a charger with a higher wattage number is not automatically the best charger for the Pixel 11 Pro XL.

This means Pixel 11 Pro XL owners may need to check charger specifications carefully. A compatible USB-C PD power adapter is necessary to get close to the fastest charging results. Without the correct voltage and current support, the phone may still charge safely, but not at its maximum possible speed.

There is also another issue affecting Google’s new “Extreme Charging” feature.

Extreme Charging is a new mode introduced with the Pixel 11 series. It is designed to speed up charging sessions by allowing the phone to run slightly warmer while temporarily limiting processor performance. The idea is simple: reduce background power demand and tolerate a bit more heat so the battery can charge faster.

The mode should appear in Quick Settings when the battery is below 50 percent and a compatible charger is connected. But testing found that Extreme Charging does not always activate as expected. A reported software issue appears to delay when the feature becomes available, meaning users may not be able to enable it immediately even when all requirements are met.

Because of this, the Pixel 11 Pro XL did not reach Google’s advertised 0 to 75 percent in 30 minutes during testing. Instead, charging to 75 percent took about five minutes longer than the company’s claim. That is still fast, but it shows that the experience may vary depending on charger compatibility, software behavior, battery temperature, and charging conditions.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro XL delivers better wired charging than the Pixel 10 Pro XL. It starts at a higher peak wattage, finishes a full charge faster, and introduces a more aggressive charging option for users who need speed. Still, the new Extreme Charging mode appears to need software refinement before it works reliably for everyone.

For now, Pixel 11 Pro XL users who want the fastest possible charging should use a properly compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger, start charging when the battery is below 50 percent, and watch for Google’s software updates that may improve Extreme Charging reliability.
