Tesla is gearing up to release an exciting new Model Y Performance trim, poised for a powerful update across the US, Europe, and China. Recently seen undergoing testing at the famous Nürburgring racetrack, this upgraded Model Y is increasingly spotted in California. The latest sighting, filmed near Palo Alto, showcases the vehicle wrapped in camouflage, providing a clear view of its rumored new 21″ forged wheels designed specifically for the Performance trim.
These wheels, while appearing similar to regular cast versions, add to the anticipation surrounding Tesla’s official announcement detailing the Model Y Performance and its pricing. Historically, the Performance edition has been priced approximately $10,000 more than the standard AWD model, and the trend seems likely to continue.
With the federal tax credit set to expire at the end of September, Tesla aims to release this model beforehand. The current $7,500 subsidy for new electric vehicle purchases could reduce the expected price tag of $59,990.
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance is anticipated to feature the 510 HP drivetrain from the Model 3 Performance, a significant boost from its predecessor’s 456 HP. This enhancement is expected to propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds. Furthermore, the refreshed 2026 Model Y is lighter and more aerodynamic, potentially offering greater range on a single charge, even with the same battery.
Distinctive features such as dedicated badging, a prominent spoiler, and a redesigned bumper with additional diffusers are expected to set the Performance trim apart. The exclusive 21″ wheels will also contribute to the sporty and aggressive aesthetic of Tesla’s most powerful Model Y.
