SwitchBot Debuts First-of-Its-Kind Smart Lock That Opens With 3D Face Recognition

SwitchBot has strengthened its smart home security lineup with the launch of the Lock Vision series, a new range of smart door locks designed to make home access faster, safer, and more convenient. The series includes two models: SwitchBot Lock Vision and SwitchBot Lock Vision Pro.

The standout feature is 3D structured-light facial recognition, which SwitchBot describes as a first for a smart deadbolt lock. The technology is similar to what is used in high-end smartphones, projecting more than 20,000 infrared points to build a detailed 3D map of the user’s face. This allows the lock to recognize authorized users with millimeter-level accuracy and unlock the door in less than one second.

While facial recognition is the headline feature, the Lock Vision series is built to offer flexibility for different households and daily routines. Users can unlock the door through the SwitchBot app, NFC cards, passwords, voice assistants, smartwatch controls, geofencing-based auto-unlock, physical keys, palm vein recognition, and semiconductor fingerprint scanning.

The palm vein recognition feature adds another layer of convenience. Using infrared sensing, the lock can identify the vein pattern in a user’s palm, allowing contactless unlocking. This is especially useful when fingers are wet, dirty, or not easily recognized by a traditional fingerprint scanner.

Battery life is another major highlight. The SwitchBot Lock Vision series is powered by a 10,000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery, which the company says can last for up to 12 months on a single charge. That long runtime should reduce the need for frequent charging and make the locks more practical for everyday home use.

The new smart locks also support Matter-over-Wi-Fi, allowing direct connection with compatible smart home platforms. This makes it easier for users to integrate the Lock Vision series into existing smart home setups without relying on complicated workarounds.

Security is clearly a major focus for the Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro. SwitchBot has included a six-tier protection system covering lock security, unlock security, communication security, alarm security, and power-related safeguards. The locks also feature tamper alerts, forced unlock protection, remote unlock confirmation, and automatic lockout after repeated failed verification attempts.

Additional protection includes IP65-rated water and dust resistance, making the locks suitable for outdoor use in various weather conditions. An emergency SOS fingerprint recognition feature is also included, adding another safety-focused option for urgent situations.

With advanced facial recognition, multiple unlocking methods, strong battery life, Matter-over-Wi-Fi support, and layered security protections, the SwitchBot Lock Vision series is positioned as a premium smart door lock solution for modern connected homes. It is designed for users who want quick access, improved safety, and smart home compatibility in one device.
