Threads is rolling out an exciting new redesign aimed at enhancing user experience by keeping feeds visible right on the home screen. This update, announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, introduces a feature that allows users to seamlessly swipe between different feeds, similar to the functionality found on X.
For Android users, this redesign is being rolled out today, with the iOS update set to follow shortly.
Mosseri expressed enthusiasm over the improvement, stating that the ability to switch between feeds with just a swipe will significantly simplify navigation on the app. Though it may seem like a minor enhancement, its implications for user friendliness are substantial.
This redesign is the latest in a series of updates Threads has introduced in the past two weeks. Recently, the social network tested a feature allowing users to select their default feed—whether For You, Following, or a custom feed—a much-anticipated option since Threads’ debut last year.
Furthermore, Threads launched custom feeds, enabling users to tailor their feeds around particular topics or user profiles of interest. Additionally, in response to user feedback, the app’s “For You” feed now prioritizes content from followed users, addressing complaints about seeing too much content from non-followed accounts.
Threads is also in the process of developing a feature akin to Bluesky’s “Starter Packs.” These are curated lists of recommended users for newcomers to follow, helping them quickly engage with the community upon joining.
These updates are happening as Meta increasingly views Bluesky, a decentralized alternative to X, as a formidable competitor. With Bluesky recently surpassing 20 million users, Meta is making swift strategic changes to Threads to reinforce its user base and attract more users amidst the rising popularity of Bluesky.
By actively listening to user feedback and swiftly implementing enhancements, Threads is striving to retain its audience and maintain its edge in this competitive social media landscape.
