AMD’s upcoming Navi 48 GPU has recently appeared on Geekbench. Although the specific model tested remains unspecified, it is highly likely to be the Radeon RX 8800 XT. This test, conducted on the platform’s OpenCL benchmark, yielded a wide range of scores, which is typical for pre-production hardware. This development indicates that AMD’s new graphics cards are nearing their launch, anticipated to be unveiled at CES 2025.
The GPU identified as “gfx1201” through an LLVM patch is confirmed to be a Navi 48 SKU. Geekbench data reveals the graphics card features 56 Compute Units (CUs) or 28 Workgroup Processors (WGPs). The scores reported for the RX 8800 XT ranged from a high of 33,241 to a low of 12,962, which are significantly lower than the average OpenCL score of approximately 160,000 for the previous generation Radeon RX 7900 XT.
Despite these early figures, the RX 8800 XT’s specifications offer some insights, including 16 GB of RAM and a maximum boost clock of 2.1 GHz. These specs are comparable to the last generation RDNA 3 GPUs, but the final product is expected to have higher performance levels once it officially launches. These initial benchmarks also support previous rumors about the RDNA 4 GPU’s capabilities.
In terms of performance, the RX 8800 XT is anticipated to be on par with the Radeon RX 7900 XT, and potentially the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. It is also speculated that this new GPU could compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080 in rasterization performance, although it might lag behind in raytracing capabilities.
