Sony is expanding its recent PlayStation hardware price increases to more markets, with several Southeast Asian countries set to see higher costs starting May 1, 2026. The move follows earlier price hikes introduced in Western regions and Japan on April 2, signaling that Sony’s pricing strategy is being adjusted more broadly as global economic conditions continue to shift.
Beginning in May, gamers in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam will pay more for key PlayStation products, including the PlayStation 5, PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal remote player. The exact increases vary by country and device, with some of the steepest jumps landing on the mobile-style PlayStation Portal.
Indonesia is seeing the largest percentage change. The PlayStation Portal is rising to IDR 5,199,000, a significant increase from IDR 3,599,000. PS5 console prices are also moving up in the country, with the standard PS5 now listed at IDR 11,399,000 and the PS5 Digital Edition at IDR 9,999,000.
In Singapore, updated pricing places the PS5 at SGD 849. The PS5 Digital Edition will sell for SGD 764, while the PS5 Pro climbs to SGD 1,167. Sony’s PlayStation Portal is set at SGD 347.
Malaysia’s new pricing lists the PS5 at MYR 2,799 and the PS5 Digital Edition at MYR 2,499. The PS5 Pro will retail for MYR 3,999, and the PlayStation Portal will cost MYR 1,099.
Thailand will also receive adjusted pricing, with the PS5 now costing THB 20,990 and the PS5 Digital Edition priced at THB 18,790. The PS5 Pro is rising to THB 30,990, and the PlayStation Portal will retail for THB 8,380.
In addition, the PS5 price is increasing in the Philippines and Vietnam, where it now sits at PHP 40,032 and VND 16,900,000, respectively.
Sony attributes these PlayStation price increases to ongoing pressure in the global economic landscape. However, the changes haven’t been without impact elsewhere: following the earlier price rise in Japan, PlayStation console sales reportedly dipped, creating an opening for competing platforms to gain momentum. For buyers in Southeast Asia, the timing may influence whether they purchase now, wait for bundles and seasonal promotions, or consider alternative options in the current console market.
