Square Enix Expands Xbox Presence, Begins with FFXIV Launch

Not long after a new rumor emerged suggesting Final Fantasy XVI might be making its way to Xbox, a prominent producer at Square Enix has committed to bringing more of their titles to Microsoft’s console.

In a recent interview focused on the launch of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox—a development many fans believed would never occur—the producer highlighted the positive reception and fast-growing community on the platform. Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, expressed excitement about the game’s success on Xbox, noting the strong response and rapidly expanding new communities.

Yoshida emphasized their intent to use the MMORPG’s launch as a springboard to deepen the relationship with Xbox gamers. He acknowledged the efforts of Phil Spencer and his team in making the game’s release on Xbox possible and expressed a desire to capitalize on this collaboration moving forward.

He further asserted that the importance of the game’s release on Xbox extends beyond Final Fantasy XIV to Square Enix as a whole. Yoshida indicated that the company sees this as a “starting point” for bringing more of their titles to the Xbox platform, despite its smaller user base in Japan.

This move aligns with Square Enix’s recent strategy shift towards aggressive multiplatform releases, a change likely influenced by declining sales on Sony consoles and several of their major titles being PlayStation exclusives.

“We want as many players as possible to enjoy our games,” Yoshida said. Using Final Fantasy XIV as the initial step, Square Enix plans to release more games on Xbox, with Yoshida encouraging fans to look forward to future releases on the platform.
