Sony FX5 Cinema Camera Debuts With Full-Frame 5K Recording, 16-Bit RAW, and Pro Audio Options
Sony is expanding its cinema camera lineup with the new Sony FX5, a full-frame 5K digital film camera built for professional video creators, independent filmmakers, documentary shooters, and production teams that need high-end image quality in a compact body.
One of the biggest highlights of the Sony FX5 is its support for 16-bit Sony X-OCN compressed RAW recording. This format is designed to preserve a wide amount of image data while keeping file sizes more manageable than traditional RAW workflows. For creators working on commercials, films, music videos, or color-heavy productions, X-OCN can provide greater flexibility in post-production, especially when adjusting exposure, contrast, and color grading.
The camera records to either SDXC cards or CFexpress Type A cards, giving users a choice between more affordable media and faster professional storage. Both card types can be used in the camera’s dual memory card slots, making the FX5 more flexible for different production budgets and shooting scenarios.
For monitoring, the Sony FX5 includes a 3.5-inch multi-angle LCD screen with 2.76 million dots. This display is designed to help videographers frame shots from different angles, whether shooting handheld, on a tripod, or in a more complex rigging setup.
