Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is already shaping up to be one of the most ambitious mobile chipsets in recent years, but a new rumor suggests that not every version of the chip will deliver the same level of performance. The key difference could come down to memory support.

According to information shared by well-known Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm may offer two versions of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. The higher-end model is expected to support LPDDR6 RAM, while another version may work with LPDDR5X memory. While this gives smartphone brands more flexibility, it may also create a noticeable performance gap between devices using the same chipset name.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is rumored to feature a new CPU architecture, a redesigned core cluster, and extremely aggressive clock speeds that could reach up to 5.00GHz. If accurate, this would represent a major leap for Android flagship phones, especially in gaming, multitasking, and AI-driven workloads.

However, the rumor claims that the chip’s full potential may only be unlocked when paired with LPDDR6 RAM. Compared to LPDDR5X, LPDDR6 is expected to offer much higher memory bandwidth while improving power efficiency.
