Sennheiser has introduced the HD 480 Pro, a new pair of closed-back studio headphones built for professional music recording, tracking, and monitoring. Priced at $399 MSRP, the HD 480 Pro is positioned for engineers, producers, and musicians who need dependable isolation and accurate sound when working in the studio or monitoring in louder environments.
A key goal of the HD 480 Pro is to deliver a natural, “uncolored” listening experience that closely matches the company’s open-back HD 490 Pro tuning. That matters for music professionals who want consistent, trustworthy playback whether they’re recording with other performers in the room, checking takes during tracking, or monitoring audio during live events where outside noise can easily interfere. With a closed-back design, the HD 480 Pro aims to keep more sound in and more noise out while maintaining the kind of frequency response accuracy many creators rely on for critical decisions.
On the technical side, the HD 480 Pro uses 38 mm drivers and covers a wide stated frequency range of 3 Hz to 28,700 Hz (-10 dB). Sennheiser lists total harmonic distortion at less than 0.5%, supporting cleaner reproduction at higher volumes. The headphones have a 130-ohm impedance and a maximum power rating of 300 mW, with a maximum sound pressure level reaching 130 dB—specs that point to strong headroom for monitoring, while still being suited to professional audio gear.
Comfort and practicality are also central to the design. Sennheiser says the HD 480 Pro is made to stay comfortable even for people wearing eyeglasses. The earcups are ergonomically angled, and the headband is designed to maintain equal contact pressure to reduce fatigue during longer sessions. At 272 grams (9.6 oz.), the headphones are also light enough for extended use without feeling bulky.
For connectivity, Sennheiser includes both a 3.5 mm unbalanced cable and a 6.3 mm balanced cable. Each cable features a patented coiled segment intended to reduce cable noise from traveling up to the earcups—useful when moving around a studio setup, adjusting instruments, or working at a console.
Long-term ownership is supported with user-replaceable parts. The cables, ear cushions, and headband pads can all be replaced by the user, helping the HD 480 Pro fit into demanding studio routines where gear durability and easy maintenance matter.
The Sennheiser HD 480 Pro is available through the company’s official sales channels, offering a closed-back option for professionals who want isolation without giving up accurate, reference-style audio reproduction.
