Sennheiser Momentum 5 Arrives With Smarter ANC, Extra Mics, and a Swappable Battery

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Headphones Debut With Better ANC, More Mics, and a Replaceable Battery

Sennheiser has introduced the Momentum 5, its latest premium over-ear wireless headphones and the long-awaited successor to the Momentum 4. Arriving nearly four years after the previous model, the new headphones focus on stronger noise cancellation, improved call quality, long battery life, and a more repair-friendly design.

At first glance, the Momentum 5 keeps much of the familiar look of the Momentum series. The design remains clean and modern, with a fabric-style headband, flat-folding earcups, and a premium finish. However, Sennheiser has made a few subtle updates, including refreshed branding on the headband and metal accents on the earcups. These plates may also be connected to the upgraded microphone system.

One of the most important changes is the user-removable battery. This gives the Momentum 5 a major advantage for long-term ownership, as the battery can be replaced instead of forcing users to retire the headphones when battery performance declines. For buyers looking for durable wireless headphones that can last for years, this repairable design is a welcome upgrade.

The Momentum 5 uses 42mm drivers, the same driver size found in the previous generation. Sennheiser’s Momentum headphones have long been known for balanced, detailed audio, and the new model is expected to continue that tradition while adding several modern features for immersive listening.

Active noise cancellation has also received a major boost. Sennheiser says the ANC on the Momentum 5 is three times stronger in mid-range frequencies compared with the Momentum 4. This should make the headphones more effective at reducing voices, traffic, office noise, and other everyday distractions.

A big reason for the improved ANC is the upgraded microphone setup. The Momentum 5 includes eight microphones, doubling the four microphones used in the Momentum 4. These extra microphones should also improve voice pickup during phone calls, video meetings, and voice assistant use.

For moments when users need to hear their surroundings, the headphones include a transparency mode. This lets outside sound pass through, making it easier to listen for announcements, talk to someone nearby, or stay aware while walking in public.

Battery life remains one of the Momentum line’s strongest features. The Momentum 5 offers up to 57 hours of playback on a single charge. That is slightly lower than the 60-hour rating of the Momentum 4, but it is still excellent for premium wireless noise-canceling headphones. Actual battery life will depend on volume, ANC settings, codec use, and listening habits.

The headphones charge through USB-C, and the same USB-C port can also be used for wired audio playback. A 3.5mm headphone jack is included as well, giving users another wired listening option. Sennheiser has also added five LED indicators to show remaining battery life at a glance.

The Momentum 5 comes with several high-end audio features, including spatial audio with Dolby Atmos and head tracking. This can create a more immersive listening experience for supported music, movies, and games.

Wireless connectivity is also modern and future-ready. The headphones support aptX Lossless, Snapdragon Sound, and Bluetooth 5.4. Sennheiser says a future firmware update will bring Bluetooth 6.0 and LE Audio support, helping the Momentum 5 stay current as wireless audio technology continues to evolve.

For controls, Sennheiser includes both physical buttons and touch controls on the right earcup. This gives users flexible ways to adjust playback, volume, calls, ANC, and other functions without always needing to reach for a phone.

The headphones ship with a large hard-shell carrying case. Because the earcups fold flat rather than inward, the case has a wide, slim shape. Inside, there are dedicated areas for the USB-C cable and 3.5mm audio cable, along with a pocket for small accessories.

Sennheiser will sell the Momentum 5 in three colors: Black, White, and Denim. The headphones are priced at $399.99 in the United States, €399.90 in Europe, and £329.90 in the United Kingdom. They are scheduled to launch on June 30.

With stronger ANC, eight microphones, premium codec support, spatial audio, excellent battery life, and a replaceable battery, the Sennheiser Momentum 5 is shaping up to be a strong competitor in the premium noise-canceling headphones market. For users who want long-lasting wireless headphones with high-quality sound and better repairability, this new model could be one of the most appealing releases of the year.
