Seiko’s 5 Sports Field GMT Watches Are Finally Going Worldwide

Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT HDB001 and HDB002 Launch Globally With Smaller 39.4mm Cases

Seiko’s latest 5 Sports Field GMT watches are now reaching international markets after their debut in Japan, bringing a more compact and travel-focused option to the brand’s popular everyday sports watch lineup.

The new Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT HDB001 and HDB002 are now available in the UK, select European countries, Australia, and Singapore. Both models combine classic field-watch styling with practical GMT functionality, making them ideal for frequent travelers, office wear, weekend use, and anyone who wants to track a second time zone at a glance.

A smaller GMT watch for everyday wear

One of the biggest changes with the HDB001 and HDB002 is the case size. Seiko has fitted these models with a 39.4mm stainless steel case, making them smaller than the 41mm case used on several earlier 5 Sports Field models. The result is a watch that should feel more versatile on the wrist while still keeping the rugged personality of the 5 Sports collection.

The case measures 39.4mm in diameter, 47.9mm lug-to-lug, and 13.6mm thick. That gives the watch a balanced profile for daily use, especially for buyers who prefer a more compact automatic GMT watch.

Fixed 24-hour bezel and GMT hand

Unlike previous Seiko 5 Sports Field models that used a rotating compass bezel, the HDB001 and HDB002 feature a fixed 24-hour bezel. This works together with the additional GMT hand, allowing the wearer to track a second time zone.

This is especially useful for travelers, remote workers, business users, or anyone who regularly communicates with people in another country. The bright orange GMT hand also adds a sporty contrast to the dial while making the second-time-zone display easy to read.

Two dial options: forest green and cream

The Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT HDB001 comes with a forest green dial, giving it a more outdoors-inspired look. The HDB002 uses a light cream dial, offering a cleaner and slightly more vintage-style appearance.

Both versions feature large Arabic numerals, bold hands, and LumiBrite on the hands and indices for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The design keeps the practical field-watch layout while adding the extra functionality of a GMT complication.

Powered by Seiko’s Caliber 4R34 automatic movement

Inside both models is Seiko’s in-house Caliber 4R34 automatic movement. This movement supports manual winding and includes hacking seconds, allowing more precise time setting.

The movement offers an approximate 41-hour power reserve and a stated daily accuracy range of +45 to -35 seconds per day. It also powers the date display and the 24-hour GMT hand.

Built for durability

The HDB001 and HDB002 are designed as sturdy everyday watches. Each model includes a curved Hardlex crystal, a stainless steel bracelet, and a one-push tri-fold clasp. The watches also feature a see-through screw-back caseback, giving owners a view of the automatic movement inside.

Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, or 10 ATM, making the watches suitable for daily wear, light swimming, and general outdoor use.

Pricing and availability

The Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT HDB001 and HDB002 are priced at £410 in the UK and €460 in select European markets. In Australia, pricing is set at AUD $675, while Singapore pricing is listed at SGD $618.10.

A US release is expected, although availability has not yet appeared on Seiko’s US store at the time of writing.
