Seiko Unveils Limited-Edition Open-Heart Timepieces Powered by the 4R38 Caliber

Seiko Japan is kicking off Spring 2026 with a fresh pair of limited-edition mechanical watches aimed at the domestic market, and they’re designed to grab attention at first glance. The new references, SCVE065 and SSDE025, arrive with light blue dials and an “open heart” layout that reveals the balance wheel through an aperture positioned at 9 o’clock. It’s a classic enthusiast detail that adds movement and personality to the dial, making these watches feel lively even when you’re standing still.

Both models share the same foundation: stainless-steel cases paired with stainless-steel bracelets, along with a display caseback so you can see the mechanics in action. Inside is Seiko’s Caliber 4R38, an automatic movement that also supports manual winding and hacking for more precise time-setting. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels, and offers an approximate 41-hour power reserve—practical numbers for daily wear, with enough reserve to comfortably last through a rotation.

The caseback does more than show off the movement. It’s marked with “Limited Edition” text and includes an individual serial number, reinforcing that these aren’t standard-production releases.

Where the two watches really diverge is size and production volume. The Seiko SCVE065 is the larger option, measuring 42 mm across and 11.6 mm thick, with a 51.5 mm lug-to-lug length. This version will be limited to 1,000 pieces, making it the more widely available of the two—though still firmly in limited-edition territory.

The SSDE025 is the smaller and rarer counterpart. Its case comes in at 34.2 mm in diameter, 10.8 mm thick, and 41.4 mm lug-to-lug, and production is capped at just 400 units. Despite the difference in dimensions, both watches maintain the same everyday-ready durability with a 10 bar (100 meters) water resistance rating.

With their soft light blue dials, open-heart display, and numbered limited-edition casebacks, the SCVE065 and SSDE025 look positioned to appeal to collectors and anyone who enjoys seeing the “heartbeat” of a mechanical watch on the wrist—especially for those hunting for a Spring 2026 Seiko release that stands out from the usual lineup.
