Spider-Man swaps Xperia for Samsung foldables in a clever Galaxy Z Flip 8 ad
Spider-Man is getting a smartphone upgrade in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Samsung has found a fun way to explain why Peter Parker is suddenly using a Galaxy foldable instead of his usual Sony Xperia-style device from previous live-action appearances.
Trailers for the upcoming film have already shown the web-slinger using a Samsung foldable phone, sparking plenty of curiosity among fans. After all, Spider-Man has long been associated with Sony in the movie world, and Sony still makes smartphones. But in the new Samsung ad, the switch is given an in-universe explanation that feels perfectly suited to Peter Parker’s chaotic superhero lifestyle.
The short video shows Peter with a box full of smashed smartphones, all apparently destroyed during battles with villains and everyday superhero disasters. It is a very Peter Parker problem: trying to save New York while constantly breaking his tech.
To solve the issue, his AI system suggests a new device and fabricates a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 for him. The ad positions the foldable as a compact, futuristic phone that fits Spider-Man’s fast-moving life. A second device, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, is also created for communication with Detective DeWolff, an NYPD detective expected to work with Spider-Man in the upcoming movie.
Samsung uses the ad to showcase more than just the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Ned Leeds is seen wearing a Galaxy Watch Ultra, while another Samsung foldable also appears in the video. There is even a Samsung Galaxy taxi sign on top of a yellow cab, making the branding feel fully woven into Spider-Man’s New York.
The concept is a smart piece of marketing. Instead of simply placing a phone in Peter Parker’s hand, Samsung gives fans a playful reason for the switch. Spider-Man breaks phones constantly, so his suit’s technology builds him something new, stylish, and advanced.
Of course, from a purely practical point of view, a rugged phone might seem like the more logical choice for someone who spends his nights dodging explosions, swinging between skyscrapers, and getting thrown through walls. A device like the Galaxy XCover series would probably survive a superhero fight better than a foldable.
Still, Samsung’s latest foldables are designed to be more durable than earlier models. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are said to feature new Flex Titanium technology, which strengthens the foldable display and helps make the devices more resilient. That gives the ad just enough credibility to make the idea work, especially in a superhero universe where advanced AI can fabricate custom gadgets on demand.
The real reason behind the switch is clearly product placement, but Samsung handles it with style. If a brand is going to put a smartphone in one of the biggest superhero movies, it makes sense to feature its most premium and eye-catching devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are designed to stand out, and pairing them with Spider-Man gives Samsung a major pop culture spotlight.
For fans of Spider-Man, Samsung Galaxy foldable phones, and superhero movie tech, the ad offers a fun little backstory before Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives. Peter Parker may still be unlucky with money, school, work, and villains, but at least he now has a high-end foldable phone built for his next adventure.
