Sony Xperia 1 IX Breaks Cover as Global Launch Plans Come Into Focus

Sony Xperia 1 IX appears again as new model numbers point to more regional variants

Sony’s next premium Xperia smartphone appears to be moving closer to launch. New database entries suggest the company is preparing multiple versions of what is expected to be the Sony Xperia 1 IX, continuing its long-running flagship Android lineup.

Earlier this month, three unreleased Xperia model numbers were spotted in the GSMA IMEI database, hinting at regional versions of the upcoming device. Those listings were believed to represent variants for Japan, Europe, and other global markets. The model numbers included XQ-H44, XQ-HH54, and XQ-HH74, alongside internal Sony designations PM-1545-BV, PM-1540-BV, and PM-1541-BV.

Now, more evidence has surfaced. Additional references have reportedly appeared for PM-1542-BV, PM-1543-BV, and PM-1544-BV. These new entries are said to correspond to Japanese carrier versions of the Xperia 1 IX, specifically models intended for Docomo, AU, and SoftBank.

If accurate, this means Sony is preparing a broad rollout strategy for its next flagship Xperia, at least across select regions and carrier partners. The appearance of multiple model numbers usually indicates that the device is already progressing through the necessary certification and registration stages before release.

The Xperia 1 IX is expected to succeed the Xperia 1 VIII, Sony’s current flagship smartphone. While the new listings do not reveal full specifications, the Xperia 1 series typically focuses on premium display technology, high-end camera hardware, advanced manual photo and video controls, and strong multimedia features aimed at creators and enthusiasts.

Sony has not officially announced the Xperia 1 IX yet, so details such as its chipset, camera setup, battery capacity, display upgrades, and release date remain unconfirmed. However, the growing number of database entries suggests that the device is actively in development and may be introduced in the coming months.

The discovery of carrier-specific Japanese variants also indicates that Sony may continue prioritizing markets where the Xperia brand still has a loyal following. At the same time, availability in some regions could remain limited, as Sony has gradually reduced its smartphone presence in several international markets over recent years.

For Xperia fans, these new listings are an encouraging sign. While Sony’s mobile division is much smaller than those of other major Android brands, the Xperia 1 line continues to stand out by offering a unique mix of professional-style camera tools, clean Android software, and a display experience designed for media consumption.

More information about the Sony Xperia 1 IX should emerge as the device moves closer to launch. For now, the latest model number discoveries strongly suggest that Sony’s next flagship Xperia is real, and that several regional and carrier versions are already being prepared behind the scenes.
