Samsung Begins Mass Production of PM1763 PCIe 6.0 SSD for Next-Generation AI Servers

Samsung Electronics has started mass production of its PM1763 enterprise SSD, a new PCIe 6.0-based storage solution designed for next-generation AI and high-performance computing servers.

As artificial intelligence workloads continue to expand, data centers need storage that can move massive amounts of information quickly, consistently, and efficiently. AI training and inference rely on fast access to huge datasets, and traditional storage performance can become a bottleneck in advanced server environments. Samsung’s PM1763 is built to address that challenge.

The PM1763 is aimed at modern AI infrastructure, including future high-performance server platforms that demand extremely fast data transfer between CPUs, GPUs, accelerators, and storage systems. By combining Samsung’s 9th-generation V-NAND with a newly developed 4-nanometer controller, the drive delivers major gains in both speed and power efficiency compared with the previous-generation PM1753.

Samsung will offer the PM1763 in 4TB, 8TB, and 16TB capacities. The flagship 16TB model delivers sequential read speeds of up to 28,400 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 21,900 MB/s. That is more than double the performance of its predecessor, making it a strong fit for AI servers handling large-scale models and data-heavy workloads.

To put that speed into perspective, Samsung says the PM1763 can transfer a 40GB large language model in around 1.4 seconds. Faster movement of AI models and datasets can help reduce latency between processors and accelerators, improving overall system responsiveness and AI processing efficiency.

The PM1763 is also designed for the next wave of advanced server cooling systems. It supports direct-to-chip cooling technology, making it well suited for liquid-cooled data centers where sustained performance is critical. This is especially important for AI and HPC systems that operate under heavy workloads for extended periods.

Power efficiency is another major focus. Samsung says the PM1763 offers more than 1.8 times better power efficiency than the PM1753. For large data centers running thousands of drives, improved efficiency can help reduce operating costs while supporting higher performance per watt.

With PCIe 6.0 support, improved controller technology, faster V-NAND, and optimization for liquid-cooled AI servers, the Samsung PM1763 positions itself as a key enterprise SSD for the next generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure. As AI models become larger and server demands increase, high-speed storage like the PM1763 will play an increasingly important role in keeping data centers fast, efficient, and scalable.
