Samsung Electronics is gearing up to revolutionize semiconductor innovation with plans to adopt glass substrates in chip packaging by 2028. This move signifies a major shift from traditional silicon-based interposers to glass, marking the company’s first official roadmap toward this evolution.
In chip manufacturing, interposers play a crucial role in 2.5D packaging, especially for AI semiconductors where GPUs are paired with high-bandwidth memory (HBM). These interposers facilitate faster communication between components. However, traditional interposers can be costly, which poses a challenge as the AI industry expands. Glass interposers, on the other hand, offer a more cost-effective solution, providing superior precision for ultra-fine circuits and enhanced dimensional stability.
