A Galaxy S22 Ultra owner has shared a frightening experience involving an Exynos-powered model that overheated severely while charging overnight during a heatwave in the United Kingdom. The incident has sparked renewed discussion around smartphone heat management, Exynos performance concerns, and the risks of leaving devices plugged in for long periods, especially in hot weather.
According to the user’s account on Reddit, the Galaxy S22 Ultra was connected to a standard slow charger overnight when the situation quickly became alarming. The owner said he was woken up in the middle of the night after his nearby Galaxy Z Fold 6 began flashing light notifications, apparently warning him about the extreme heat coming from the S22 Ultra.
The timing made the situation even worse. The UK was experiencing high temperatures and humidity, creating poor conditions for a phone that was already generating heat while charging. Within a few hours, the Galaxy S22 Ultra reportedly became dangerously hot, its display failed, and the rear panel began lifting from the body.
The device also entered a bootloop, repeatedly trying to restart while continuing to heat up. In the owner’s words, the phone became unusable in roughly five hours.
