Asus ROG Strix G16 deal: Ryzen 9 and RTX 5060 gaming laptop gets a $600 price cut
A powerful Asus ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop is currently available with a major $600 discount at Walmart, dropping the price to just under $1,400 for a limited time. For shoppers looking for a high-performance gaming laptop with serious CPU power, this configuration stands out thanks to its 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 processor, Nvidia RTX 5060 graphics, upgradeable memory, and fast 165Hz display.
The highlight of this Asus ROG Strix G16 is its AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor. This is a 16-core “Fire Range” CPU based on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, designed for demanding workloads such as gaming, video editing, 3D rendering, compiling code, streaming, and heavy multitasking. In everyday use, this means the laptop is built to handle far more than casual browsing or light gaming.
Performance should be especially strong when the laptop is plugged in, where the Ryzen 9 chip can stretch its legs and deliver impressive multi-core power. For users who rely on CPU-heavy applications, the ROG Strix G16 is arguably more than just a gaming machine. It can double as a mobile workstation for creators, developers, and power users who need desktop-class performance in a portable form factor.
On the graphics side, this configuration includes an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM. The GPU is rated at up to 115 watts, which should make it capable of smooth 1080p and 1200p gaming at high frame rates in many modern titles. It also supports Nvidia’s latest gaming features, making it a solid fit for competitive players and mainstream PC gamers.
That said, the 8GB VRAM limit is something to keep in mind. While it is fine for many games today, some future AAA titles may demand more video memory at higher settings. Because of that, this particular ROG Strix G16 configuration may appeal most to buyers who want a balance of strong gaming performance and exceptional CPU power, rather than those chasing the highest-end GPU setup possible.
The laptop features a 16-inch IPS display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution, giving users a little extra vertical space compared to standard 1080p screens. The panel also offers a 165Hz refresh rate, making it well-suited for fast-paced games such as shooters, racing titles, and esports favorites. With full sRGB color coverage, the display should also be serviceable for everyday creative work, streaming, and content consumption.
Memory and storage are also practical. The laptop comes with 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, installed in one of two available SODIMM slots. That means users can upgrade the memory later instead of being locked into the stock configuration. Storage is handled by a 1TB SSD, and the presence of dual M.2 slots gives buyers room to expand if they need more space for games, videos, or project files.
Connectivity is another strong point. The Asus ROG Strix G16 includes Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 4.0 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm audio jack. One of the USB-C ports also supports Power Delivery, adding extra flexibility for charging and accessories.
The keyboard layout skips a physical number pad, which some users may miss. However, Asus includes a virtual numpad through the touchpad, which helps maintain productivity without making the keyboard feel cramped. As expected from a gaming laptop in this class, portability is not its strongest trait. The system weighs around 2.5 kg, or about 5.51 lbs, so it is better suited for users who need power they can move when necessary rather than an ultra-light travel laptop.
At its discounted price, the Asus ROG Strix G16 is a compelling option for gamers, creators, students in technical fields, and professionals who need a strong multi-core processor in a laptop. The Ryzen 9 9955HX is the star of the show, while the RTX 5060 provides enough graphics power for smooth high-refresh gaming at the laptop’s native resolution.
For under $1,400 after the $600 discount, this ROG Strix G16 deal is worth considering if you want a performance-focused 16-inch gaming laptop with upgrade options and serious CPU muscle. As always with retailer promotions, pricing and availability may change quickly.
