A reputable leaker has shared information regarding a test device for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, revealing significant modifications to its Leica camera configuration. The changes to the camera module suggest a larger telephoto with a 200 MP sensor and new features for the primary camera.
Digital Chat Station, one of the most reliable sources for tech leaks in China, recently discussed updates to the Leica camera on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra on social media. The leaker had the chance to examine an early test unit of Xiaomi’s next premium camera-focused smartphone. However, these changes might not necessarily make it to the final version.
Although no images were provided, the leaker gave a detailed description of modifications to the circular camera module compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The general circular shape of the Leica 2025 camera is not expected to change, but the position and size of the cameras have been notably altered. The upcoming Leica flagship, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, will include two telephoto lenses. One of these telephotos will have periscope optics and a 200 MP sensor, appearing significantly larger.
The leaker anticipates a 1/1.4-inch sensor for the 4x zoom camera, aligning with the initial visual impressions. There’s also mention of a seemingly larger 50 MP main camera, which could imply either a larger aperture or a bigger sensor. Xiaomi already employs a 1-inch format sensor, so further expansion could break new ground in the smartphone market. Whether such a sensor upgrade is practical remains debatable, though there have been persistent rumors about the integration of Micro Four Thirds sensors in smartphones in recent months.
Overall, these leaks paint an exciting picture of what could be an impressive upgrade for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, particularly in its camera technology.
