Retroid Pocket 6 bounces back with two bold new designs after a rocky launch

Retroid’s latest Android gaming handheld has had quite a week. The Retroid Pocket 6 was announced on Monday, hit checkout a day later alongside the more affordable Pocket G2, and then saw its pre-orders paused as the company pivoted to a community-driven redesign. Now the revised Pocket 6 is ready to show its new look, with sales expected to reopen soon.

The headline change is choice. Retroid will offer the Pocket 6 in two configurations: one with the left joystick in a higher position and another with the stick where it originally sat. That simple option should make a big difference for players who prefer different grip styles or come from different controller ecosystems.

Ergonomics get further attention with the M1 and M2 function buttons moving to the rear panel, where they’re easier to reach with your forefingers. The company has also shifted the speakers and Android navigation buttons to the sides, a layout tweak that could reduce accidental presses and improve comfort during long sessions.

Under the hood, the redesign appears to leave the core hardware intact. Expect the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a proven performer that puts the Pocket 6 in the same power class as top Android handhelds like the Ayn Odin 2. That means strong performance for Android titles, demanding emulators, and cloud gaming.

What’s next? While a new pre-order date hasn’t been announced yet, Retroid indicates the Pocket 6 will return soon with both joystick layouts available. If you’re weighing options in the handheld gaming space, the Pocket 6 now pairs flagship-class performance with community-led ergonomics—an appealing combination for players who care about both speed and comfort.
